They say a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down. But how much is a spoonful? Then again, how much is a cupful? These are Canadian (metric) measures (which are the same as UK ones)–if you’re using cup measures from other countries, check the milliletre equivalents and go on from there.

All measures are level, unless otherwise noted:

  • A scant measure = the ingredient barely fills the measured amount, and is not packed
  • A rounded measure = the ingredient is slightly mounded over the measure
  • A heaping measure = the ingredient is heaped as much as possible over the measure without it falling or levelling off (this can be twice the stated measure)
